Don’t Throw It, Grow It!

In the continuance of Sarah’s trash theme…

Here’s a book recommendation for you: Don’t Throw It, Grow It!: 68 windowsill plants from kitchen scraps (affiliate link).

I had asked for (and received) this book a couple of Christmases ago. I leaf through it a bunch, and am always surprised at what you can grow. As kids I was taught that plants grows from seeds, but trying to germinate enough apple and watermelon seeds started to taint me, and I start to not believe that I could really grow (non-root vegetable) things straight from the food in my kitchen. Even now I’m utterly amazed my garden can produce food from itty bitty seeds.

But this book not only regains faith that you can grow food from food, it gives you some ideas of pretty cool things that you can grow! Some of the plants are a little obscure for these parts, but some are cool – you can grow oranges and peanuts and almonds!
