I have given up on the root vegetable bed. I harvested the potatoes last week. I will wait for next year to try carrots, beets, and onions again.

Basil is doing great, peppers are turning red,

and little egg plants are forming. The kale has started to grow – better late than never.

I am hoping to start pickling cucumbers at the end of this week or next week.

garden 8.1aThe cherry tree has been nibbled on by the deer. I have hung a piece of Irish Springs soap wrapped in cheese cloth on the tree. It seems to be keeping the deer away because the eaten branches have a bit of new growth.
