I think it a right of passage for a mommy blog to post about play dough. We are almost 6 month in and it is about time! Preparing for an art class this afternoon we made 6 batches. Making play dough with kids covers lots of bases: we discussed math with the measuring of the ingredients, science with the heating of the water and mixing the liquid flour combination over heat to turn it into a solid, and art when we were choosing and mixing food coloring to get just the right color. That’s all before we actually played with it.
Play dough
Ingredients
- 1 cup flour
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup salt
- 1 teaspoon vegetable oil
- 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
- food coloring
Direction
- In a pot over heat combine the water, salt, food coloring, and oil. Heat until it boils.
- Add the flour and cream of tartar and stir constantly until it becomes solid, non sticky, and resembles the texture of the play dough.
- Turn the dough onto the counter. Wait until it cools a bit. Kneed until it becomes smooth.
